There are very few professionals who know and understand exactly how theatres are built, but we’re proud to say that we do!

The success of any complex engineering project relies on the quality, experience, insight and skill of those who design and deliver it, and this was the rationale for establishing David Turnbull Consulting Ltd in 2016. The company brings together the finest specialists in the theatre and entertainments engineering industry to service our local, national and international clients.

We’re time-served specialists with a passion for doing an exceptional job for our clients, time after time. Our work takes us to theatres and performance spaces across the UK and on cruise ships around the world, where we plan, manage and fulfil successful sound, lighting and audiovisual projects of any scale. Our recent projects include:

  • full lighting design and installation for two of the largest ever cruise ship refurbishments
  • audio, visual & lighting consultancy for a prestigious global cruise line
  • audio, visual & lighting project management for the Boulevard Theatre, London

David Turnbull, Director

My roots are firmly in audio, visual and lighting engineering at live events and for organisations such as Northern Light, Stage Electrics, TMC and the BBC. Since then, I’ve applied my skills and expertise to project management, co-ordinating some of the UK’s largest construction projects for leading theatre installation and shipping refit companies across the country.

My passion for advising on and running highly successful projects was the inspiration to establish my own limited company. As Company Director, I provide genuine leadership to our clients and to construction teams. Flexible, calm, effective and efficient, I’m also good at managing and motivating people. I firmly believe that a positive, amenable workplace is a productive workplace!

Throughout my career I’ve been fortunate to work with many impressive and inspiring sound, vision, lighting and construction specialists, and I’m privileged to bring these talented individuals together on our projects today. We create bespoke teams for every project, giving you the peace of mind that you have the best people delivering the greatest outcomes and value.
